Easy Ice Cream Float Party for Kids
One of the easiest parties to host is an ice cream float party! There is very little fuss involved and casual vibes float in the air! The great thing about this party is that bigger kids can even help organize and host this party on their own – with little kitchen prep involved. For once, you moms can sit back and relax and let your kids take charge!
Why Is An Ice Cream Float Party Easy for Kids?
Why is an ice cream float party so easy for tweens and bigger kids? Nothing more than scooping and pouring is involved. Also, parents can help in advance with scooping the ice cream into individual cups, if necessary. Simply place the plastic cups of ice cream in the freezer on a metal baking tray or in a muffin tin. This keeps the ice cream frozen until you are ready to serve!
Other than that, there isn’t much more to the set up and the serving! All you have to do is pour your soda.

Norah Says…
For an ice cream float party for kids, it is best to have plastic straws and spoons. Sometimes the paper straws get stuck in your mouth because they get wet and fall apart. So the plastic ones are better for ice cream. We have used the paper straws before though when we didn’t have anything else.
You should use cute colorful napkins for an ice cream float party – not just the normal white ones. Oh, and clear cups are best because you can see the pretty floats inside!
Colorful sprinkles in cute little jars is always fun to add. I like the rainbow ones!
Choosing Ice Cream and Soda Flavors
Harper Says…
All you need is ice cream and some kind of soda. We use Fanta and Crush because there are many flavors in those brands. That means kids can pick whatever flavors they want. We have orange, grape, peach, strawberry, lemon-lime, and root beer. We also serve Coke for Coke floats because those are classic.
We usually use vanilla ice cream because vanilla goes with all the soda flavors. We love this orange creamsicle ice cream float!
You can also use flavored ice cream so you can mix float flavors. You can have strawberry ice cream with peach soda for a strawberry-peach ice cream float. And you can have lime flavored sherbet added to strawberry soda for a strawberry-lime ice cream float.
Offering a Few Salty Snacks at an Ice Cream Float Party
It’s always nice to offer a few crunchy snacks at parties. Generally, salty snacks go well with sweet treats like ice cream.
Mom Says…
One option is to offer a sweet and salty trail mix. Kids can easily help mix up a simple trail mix of pretzels, marshmallows, and Gold Fish or Chex Cereal. You can even often find trail mixes already mixed up at the store – making this an even easier party for you to hand off some hosting duties to your kiddos!
