3 Favorite Places for Ice Cream in Fort Smith
We may not know a whole lot about a whole lot in our young years, but we DO know ice cream! Read on to see our top 3 favorite spots for ice cream in Fort Smith. We’re focusing on a local favorite – Braum’s, Vargas Fruteria, and La Nueva Michoacana – Mexican Ice Cream Factory.
We pop into Fort Smith often to see our grandparents, and we almost always manage to talk our parents into ice cream! (We don’t have to twist our dad’s arm very hard!)
We’ve had a grand time exploring old and new places in Fort Smith over the last few years. Be sure to check out our other posts about the Vertical Horizons Climbing Gym and the Parrot Island Waterpark!
Vargas Frutería
Head on over to Vargas Frutería to a full ice cream and fruit experience! These desserts are not just delicious…they are true masterpieces of art!
We were introduced to Vargas Frutería a few months ago. We visited the Vargas Frutería location in Barley in the Fort Chaffee area – although there is also another location in Fort Smith at 1020 North Greenwood Avenue. Likewise, you can find this Arkansas ice cream shop in Springdale and Rogers, as well.
Each dessert offered comes with layers of ingredients, artfully stacked together to something of beauty. The hard part is deciding what you want to order!
We decided to order two milkshakes and share them since they are large. But, first, we had to agree on which ones! In our family, agreeing on anything at all is an act of Congress! Eventually, we decided on ordering a purple unicorn super freakshake and a cookies and cream freakshake.
Next time we visit, we intend to order one of the sweet and sour cups! They look so fresh and amazing and include a popsicle with the fruit combinations.
Check the Facebook page for opening hours and days of the week.
Pro Tip: The servings are large so having one parent share with a child is a great idea!
La Nueva Michoacana – Mexican Ice Cream Factory in Fort Smith
We first ventured into La Nueva Michoacana – Mexican Ice Cream Factory in Fort Smith on its grand opening week. We were pleasantly surprised with all that is offered in this Fort Smith ice cream shop at 1829 S. C Street.
You can find freshly made paletas, various flavors of ice cream, different horchatas and aquas frescas – as far as the cold items go. For hot items, you can try some elote, tamales, and more!
We have stopped in multiple times since that first outing, and we’ve always been happy with our selections!
Braum’s
What kind of Arkansas bloggers would we be if we didn’t give a shout out to Braum’s!? Braum’s is our go-to stop for ice cream and burgers in the Fort Smith area. With multiple locations all around northwest Arkansas, you can’t not make a stop at Braum’s Ice Cream and Dairy Store!
Braum’s began as a family-owned dairy farm back in 1968. From there it has grown to a huge dairy operation with Braum’s stores/restaurants located in five states – yet all within close enough range to the Braum dairy farm to ensure farm-to-table products at each location. The ice cream is amazing! When in the Fort Smith area, a visit to Braum’s is a must!
Take a few of the fresh baked breads home with you from the grocery area! You won’t regret it!
Somehow, of all the many stops at Braum’s, we have failed to get a good food photo. We’ll have to change that soon enough!
