We enjoy making this banana Halloween treat because of how simple it is. Our mom doesn’t feel overwhelmed to let us work in the kitchen because there aren’t that many ingredients.
Tips for Perfect Banana Ghost Pops for Halloween
To ensure your frozen banana ghosts turn out spooktacularly, here are some helpful tips!
- First, choose ripe but firm bananas for the best texture; they should be yellow with just a few brown spots.
- Before dipping, slice the bananas in half crosswise and then again lengthwise. This way, each banana gives you two smaller “banana sandwiches” – two pieces of banana sandwiched together with peanut butter inside.
- When inserting the popsicle stick, be sure the stick is anchored well into the banana/peanut butter. Once the melted white chocolate gets added on and the whole piece gets frozen, the stick should stay in place.
- When melting the white chocolate, do so in short intervals in the microwave to prevent burning, stirring frequently until smooth. We like to do 30 seconds and stir, 30 seconds and stir, and then another 20 seconds and stir (if the mixture is not completely melted after the first 60 seconds).
- For added fun, consider rolling the dipped bananas in shredded coconut before freezing to create a ghostly texture. We don’t do this step in our banana ghost pops because I (Norah) don’t like coconut. But it would add a nice layer of texture.
- Lastly, freeze the bananas for at least two hours to ensure they are solid before adding the chocolate chip eyes, which should be placed on while the chocolate is still slightly warm for better adhesion.
Serving the Frozen Banana Ghost Pops at Halloween Parties
Here are some tips for serving frozen banana pop ghosts at Halloween parties:
- Set Up a Chilling Display: Keep the banana ghosts on a chilled platter or in a bowl filled with ice to maintain their frozen state and keep them looking fresh throughout the party.
- Arrange a Creative Presentation: Arrange the banana pops in a spooky-themed container, such as a cauldron or a pumpkin, to enhance the Halloween vibe.
- Offer Small Serving Sizes: Offer the banana ghosts alongside other Halloween-themed snacks in smaller portions, making it easy for guests to sample a variety of treats.
- Add Fun Ghost Accessories: Provide themed napkins or plates featuring ghosts or pumpkins to complement the treat and make the serving area festive.
- Keep It Simple: Make sure to have plenty of napkins on hand, as the chocolate can get a bit messy, especially for little hands! Ask us how we know about this one, too!
Here in Arkansas, we know that we don’t need to serve our frozen banana pops at outdoor parties – unless we have a way to keep them cold. In Arkansas, it is still HOT in October much of the time. Therefore, we have to be careful how we go about serving anything frozen.

Adorable Frozen Banana Ghost Pops for Halloween
Equipment
- 8 Popsicle sticks
Ingredients
- 4 Bananas
- ½ cup Peanut butter
- 2 cups White chocolate baking wafers or almond bark
- 1 tbsp Vegetable oil Or coconut oil
- 16 Mini chocolate chips
Instructions
- Cut each banana in half crosswise. Then cut again lengthwise so that you have 8 banana pairs (2 pieces for each ghost – like a banana sandwich).
- Spread peanut butter on one banana (the cut side). Then place another banana piece on top – to form a banana sandwich. Repeat until you have 8 banana sandwiches.
- Gently insert a popsicle stick into the bottom of each banana sandwich, ensuring the stick seems stable and secure.
- Place the bananas on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze for about 1 hour or until firm.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the white chocolate baking wafers (or 1/2 of an almond bark brick). Heat for 30 seconds and stir. Repeat. If you need to heat longer, continue to heat at 20-second intervals and stirring each time until the mixture is smooth. Stir in oil when chocolate is melted.
- Pour melted chocolate into tall glass.
- Remove firm bananas from freezer and dip each one into the tall glass, ensuring all areas of each banana pop is coated. Place coated bananas back on parchment paper.
- After all bananas have been dipped, add two chocolate chip eyes to each banana pop ghost.
- Let bananas set until chocolate has hardened. Serve immediately or place them back in the freezer until ready to serve. Keep cool while serving or the chocolate may become gooey.
