Perfectly Imperfect Easter Bunny Paintings for Kids
Recently, we had such fun making these easy Easter bunny paintings at home. Mom got the idea from a traveling artist who had made some for a traveling vintage market. The great thing is the painted Easter bunnies are supposed to look kind of silly so Mom said it was the perfect kid project!
The artist Mom talked to (and bought some painted Easter bunnies from) said he got the idea himself from the artist, Hunt Slonem. Slonem has a cult following of his quirky bunny art. You can see how Mom styled some of the bunny art in the past.

These easy bunny paintings were interesting because we got to use canvases on some of them instead of just sheets of paper. Make sure you paint the background of the canvas first if you want a colorful bunny painting. Otherwise, you can have white background with a white bunny and the black outline. We enjoyed learning how to paint a rabbit on canvas with acrylic paint. It is kind of a combination of an Easter bunny drawing, finger paint bunny, and easy Easter bunny painting, all in one!
We started out trying to use a brush. But then we realized it was just as easy to use our finger and kind of draw out the outline in black with our fingers.
We just looked online at some of the real Easter bunny drawings and paintings by the real artist – Hunt Slonem. Then, we modeled ours after his. It was such an easy Easter bunny painting project!

We used different sizes canvases and different colors on the backgrounds.
We used a big brush to make the colored background. But we used our fingers to paint the black outline. It was fun to make finger paint bunny art! We also used a very small brush on the whiskers. On some of them we even used toothpicks to draw out the whiskers!
You need to find a good spot somewhere to hang the painted Easter bunnies. If you don’t have a good spot, the canvases might fall and tear.

These simple Easter bunny paintings make for a wonderful family project! I would imagine these could easily be done at a school using thick paper and finger paints. Even younger kids can finger paint bunnies for Easter!
I do suggest the grown ups help with the whiskers if the kids are really young because that is the most delicate area of the painting.
It is so fun to see how these painted Easter bunnies come out! Some have super long ears. Others have short stumpy ears. Each one is unique!
Because this art is so budget-friendly (especially if using paper), you can just throw out the ones you aren’t happy with and do over and over until you get it right. We recommend doing the paper versions first until your child gets a groove going. Then, you can give him or her a canvas to try.
The most fantastic thing of all is that the quirkier, the better! This means the bunnies can be imperfectly perfect making for a great kids Easter bunnies painting project.
