Family Fun in Oklahoma City: Our Favorite Places to Visit

There is a lot of family fun in Oklahoma City to be had, and we want to share some of the best places to visit while you are there. It is the largest city in the state of Oklahoma and has its own unique destinations and activities for families to take part in. We had the best time on our family trip to Oklahoma City a few years ago! As we have cousins that live in the area, we are excited to know we will probably go back again soon.

Disclosure: our original trip was a hosted trip in exchange for our original post that was posted on our other website. This post on Arkansas Girls is not part of that collaboration and is something we are adding here to this website because we enjoyed OKC so much!

Oklahoma City is often an underrated vacation spot for families, but it is home to several museums and attractions that are great for kids of all ages. The beautiful city also offers fun and exciting adventures the whole family can enjoy.

Before you head out on your next family vacation, consider visiting Oklahoma City if you haven’t already. You won’t be disappointed! In fact, whenever we hear people around Arkansas asking about potential spring break destinations or summer vacation ideas, we often recommend OKC to them! We would hate for any of our friends to miss out on this fun city!

Myriad Botanical Gardens – Children’s Garden

Since our mom is a crazy plant lady, the Myriad Botanical Gardens were a must on our visit there!

But we have to admit – even for kids, the place is quite magical! And outside, there is a cool playground – the Children’s Garden – for kids! We had the best time there!

Just know if you want to ride Mo’s Carousel, it is $3 a person and only credit card is accepted. The carousel seemed like it was mostly open in the afternoon hours, and it was closed by 6 p.m.

In the summer, the botanical gardens also feature two types of splash pads. One is called Thunder Fountain, and the other is the Seasonal Plaza Water Feature. We were there in the spring so it wasn’t quite time for splash pads just yet.

Charles B. Hall Airpark for Family Fun in Oklahoma City

This is a free activity that you can visit in Oklahoma City, and it part of the Tinker Air Force Base. As you visit the air park you will be able to walk through and see restored aircrafts, planes, and even see a few sculptures on display as well as learn more about who Charles B. Hall was and how he made such an impact on the city.

If you have any plane loving kids in your family, this place is a must!

Science Museum Oklahoma

The Science Museum Oklahoma is full of hands-on activities that teach about space exploration, engineering, aviation, technology, and so much more. There are so many different programs and exhibits to see while you are there and each of the things you explore and experience will be something memorable.

The Kirkpatrick Planetarium is one of the most popular sights to see in the science museum. Recently upgraded, the planetarium allows you to explore the cosmos, learn about the stars, and learn from astronomy experts.

There is even a giant room full of interactive games!

Oklahoma City Zoo for Family Fun in OKC

You can’t visit Oklahoma City without taking a trip to the zoo and Oklahoma has one of the best zoos in the country! Kids will love having the opportunity to get up close and personal with the animals at the zoo. We had an incredible time at this zoo. There is so much to see, and we were able to ride a trolly all around for a true tour.

The Oklahoma City Zoo offers a variety of animals to see, you can schedule wild encounters with many of the animals, enjoy a bite to eat at one of the many vendors, and so much more.

Mix-Tape Factory Obscura

Head out to the Factory Obscura for an immersive and unique art experience that will be unforgettable for everyone in the family. We recommend this for older kids though because it can be a lot for younger children to take in with all of the colors and effects.

When you visit the Mix-Tape Factory Obscura, you will be able to touch, crawl, and explore multimedia exhibits created by talented artists. It’s quite a unique experience and both older kids and adults find it quite interesting and adventurous.

Our parents think the tickets are a little pricey, but this place is full on fun!

Well, hopefully you enjoyed our list! Oklahoma City is full of adventures and activities for families. In addition to these museums and fun places to visit, Oklahoma City has a theme park, various gardens, outdoor activities, and parks in the city to enjoy. You can also visit one of the many unique restaurants, various arcades, and theatre experiences.

Also, it’s important to note that Oklahoma City doesn’t have too much to offer as far as public transportation. Keep this in mind when you visit because you will find yourself having to drive to the attractions on your own, but it’s well worth it for the experiences and family time together. Of course, you can aways Uber but we all know that gets expensive!

If you need a ride, just give us a ring. We might have room in the truck to give you a lift!
