Why We Love this Christmas Cheese Board with Snowman Outline

Kids love helping put together this sweet winter snack board with snowman outline and kid-friendly snacks. And while this snowman snack board is perfect as a Christmas cheese board, the fun doesn’t just end at Christmas. This snowman works well as a winter snack board – good all through the cold months and a chance of snow!

Ingredients

  • Popcorn – in any flavor – We like to pair caramel popcorn against the cheese! However, plain popcorn or white cheddar popcorn looks more like snow!
  • Corn snacks or corn chips
  • Marshmallows in fun colors and styles
  • Round cheese wedge that can be sliced into thirds – We like to use brie cheese.
  • Blueberries
  • Assorted crackers and cookies
  • Mozzarella balls
  • Cheddar cheese slices
  • Pomegranate seeds or fresh cranberries (something small and red)
  • Chocolate-covered pretzels or chocolate-covered cracker sticks
  • Caramel sauce
  • Chocolate sauce
  • Sprinkles – multiple styles in any color scheme you want

Recipe Tips for Snowman Snack Board

We like to include a variety of cheeses, ranging from soft brie to sharp cheddar.

Incorporate fresh fruits in Christmas colors – like red and green grapes, pomegranate seeds, or fresh cranberries to add pops of color and freshness to this Christmas butter board. For a general winter cheese board, you don’t have to worry so much about the red and green. This is a fun time to include blue and pink!

We suggest adding more crackers or bread to the side of the charcuterie board. Or use a larger board with room for additional dippers.

Process for Creating a Cheese Snowman Snack Board

  1. First, start with the wheel of brie. With a knife (parents should probably handle this part), slice the wheel of brie into thirds to make three circles of cheese with even thickness.
  2. Next, using two circle cookie cutters of different sizes, cut two pieces into slightly smaller circles. You should now have three circles of different sizes for the body and head of the snowman. Put the sprinkles, melted caramel, and chocolate sauce into containers and set in opposite areas of the board.
  3. Then, make the snowman’s eyes from blueberries and his mouth from the pomegranate seeds or fresh cranberries. Use a small triangle of cheddar for the snowman’s carrot nose.
  4. Make a starry sky of blueberries. Place the blueberries around the snowman’s head. Scatter pomegranate seeds on top. Cut out three stars from a slice of cheese using a small star cookie cutter and place on top.
  5. Next, make the snowman’s hat and hands from crackers and chocolate sticks. Add cheese and corn sticks.
  6. Fill in all the white space of the board with popcorn, marshmallows, crackers, and any extra fruit or snacks you have remaining.

Norah Says…

“This board is super fun to make. I like that we can change out the flavors and use different kinds of marshmallows. You can even add in candy like Kit Kats and different kinds of cookies like Oreos.”

Substitutions

  • Experiment with different cheeses, such as Manchego, Colby Jack blocks, or goat cheese, to provide diverse flavor profiles. If serving this board to kids, you might want to stick with the basic cheeses and not get as diverse as you might for an adult cheese board.
  • Change out the fruits as you wish. We used blueberries and pomegranate in this post, but sometimes we add in strawberries, blackberries, grapes, etc.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz Brie cheese
  • 1 cup Blueberries
  • 3 slices Cheddar cheese sandwich slices
  • 2 cups Popcorn
  • 1 cup Chocolate covered pretzels sticks
  • 1 cup Marshmallows
  • 1 cup Mozzarella balls
  • 2 cups Crackers assorted
  • 1 Pomegranate or ½ cup fresh cranberries
  • ½ cup Caramel sauce
  • ½ cup Chocolate sauce
  • ½ cup Sprinkles assorted

Instructions

  • Using glasses or a cookie cutter, cut out circles of cheese into 3 circles of varying diameters. This will become the head and body of the snowman.
  • Lay out on the three circles on the board in a snowman outline. Make the snowman's eyes from blueberries, his mouth from pomegranate seeds, and his nose from a piece of cheddar shaped into a carrot form.
  • Place the blueberries around the snowman's head. Scatter pomegranate seeds on top. With a small to medium cookie cutter, out three stars from a slice of cheese and place on top.
  • Make a snowman's hat and hands from crackers and chocolate sticks (as seen in the photos).
  • Add sprinkles, chocolate, and caramel in small containers and set around in opposite areas of the board. Add mozzarella cheese balls, leftover cheddar pieces (cut into small slices), and remaining snacks around the board. Try to cover as much of the board as possible. You may need to have a few more bowls surrounding the board to hold additional popcorn and crackers.
  • Serve and enjoy!
