Food Coloring Easter Eggs with Whipped Cream and Fake Eggs
Making neon food coloring Easter eggs with whipped cream is the perfect way to infuse your holiday tradition with a burst of bold and eye-catching colors. We have been using shaving cream and Cool Whip now to create neon Easter eggs with whipped cream that stand out with their vivid hues. We love to bring a pop of neon to our Easter celebration with these stunningly colorful eggs! This is a great Easter activity for tweens as we can pretty much do this all by ourselves!
Roll your sleeves up and let’s get started!

- Bright orange and vibrant purple
- Neon green and shocking pink
- Lemon yellow and electric blue
Supplies Needed for Food Coloring Easter Eggs with Whipped Cream
- 12 fake white eggs for dying or 12 hard-boiled and prepped eggs
- Egg carton to hold drying eggs (The fake eggs we buy at Walmart come in a carton, and we use that.)
- 1 container Cool Whip (8 ounces) or 1 large can Ready Whip
- 4-6 gel tubes or liquid tubes of food coloring in desired colors (We LOVE how the neon food colors turn out!)
- Paper plates with rims
- Fork, knife or spoon
- Paper towels for drying/cleaning
- Disposable table cloth
Instructions for Making Food Coloring Easter Eggs with Whipped Cream
- Prepare pre-boiled Easter eggs or buy fake white eggs in the Easter section at Walmart or another store (like we did here in our photos). If using real eggs, make sure eggs have been prepped and are dry.
- Cover your workspace with a large disposable tablecloth.
- In rimmed paper plates or disposable containers, add one cup of Cool Whip or canned whipped cream. You will need as many plates/scoops of whipped cream as you have colors. We recommend at least four plates to start.
- Drop a couple drops of food color into each plate of whipped cream and stir. Add another drop until you reach the color you desire.
- Carefully roll each egg around in the colors you desire. Allow excess whipped cream to accumulate on the egg.
- Gently place the eggs back into the cardboard egg carton to dry. They will still be covered in the foamy Cool Whip. Do not handle for 20-30 minutes.
- When dry, wipe the eggs down with a paper towel to remove the excess whipped cream.
Look how vibrant these food coloring Easter eggs with Cool Whip come out! And the process is so simple!
All in all, it takes us about an hour from start to finish to make our food color Easter eggs. That includes the drying/setting time. While the eggs are setting, we clean up the mess.
Hands definitely get messy when we clean off the extra Cool Whip! We keep a whole roll of paper towels on the table and use quite a bit of them during the cleaning process.
We just love making these eggs! It’s fun to see how you can change the swirls and the color patterns depending on how you move them through the food colored whipped cream mixtures.
If you have shaving cream on hand, you can follow this same process to make shaving cream Easter eggs like we feature on our other site!
