Why We Love Easter Bunny Oreos

Easter bunny Oreos are a delicious spring treat and a fantastic creative outlet for cookie decorating. Your kids will have a blast designing their bunnies with unique personalities. Plus, they make for an excellent holiday activity to do with the kids. We had fun making ours on our spring break!

We also love that this recipe uses silicone molds. Although baking with silicone molds is a pretty common thing these days, we don’t use our silicone molds as often as we should for no-bake treats.

Ingredients

These ingredients yield one batch. If you wish to double the recipe, you can do so easily!

  • 12 oz bags of white candy melts
  • 6 Oreos
  • Silicone Oreo molds
  • 6 full size marshmallows
  • Pink sprinkles
  • 6 pink M&Ms (can also use pink Skittles)
  • Candy eyes

Making Oreo Easter Bunny Cookies

We love baking cookies with our mom during spring break.

Since this is a no-bake recipe, even your youngest children can be involved in “baking” and decorating the cookies.

There are multiple steps so be sure not to miss a step!

Norah Says…

We like to help with this recipe because it’s so simple and easy and is a break from the regular baked cookies we often make. My main job is to help stir the candy melts and to add the sprinkles to the marshmallow ears. I also cut the marshmallows diagonally into ear shapes. The sticky side of the marshmallows is what the sprinkles stick to.

It’s fun to make the bunny faces and stick on the pink nose.

Storage, Advance Prep, and Reheating Instructions

  • If you have leftover cookies, store them in an airtight container for about two weeks. Make sure to separate them using wax or parchment paper to separate the layers of cookies.
  • All ingredients in the recipe are non-perishable, so it doesn’t need to be refrigerated, making this an easy recipe to make ahead of time! You can also freeze these cookies for up to three months.

Gifting Easter Bunny Oreos in Gift Boxes

You can package these Easter cookies in a variety of ways. But we recommend a sturdy box in order to keep the cookies as safe as possible during transporting. Small bakery boxes with open plastic windows so the recipient can see the adorable bunny faces inside are our recommendation! It’s best to buffer the box with tissue paper or paper shreds to not only cutesy up the box but also to prevent the cookies from sliding around too much.

Recipe Tips for Easter Bunny Oreos

If your chocolate seems a little thick, add 2 teaspoons of vegetable oil per bag of candy melts to make a thinner consistency. Do not add water to thin out the chocolate mixture.

If you want a thick layer of chocolate surrounding the Oreo, fill the chocolate to the top of the mold. If you want a thinner layer, add less chocolate to the cookie.

If you plan to give these away as a gift or special treat, make sure you decorate using a tube of decorating icing instead of gel. The gel will not harden, and your bunnies will smudge when transported.

Substitutions and Variations for Easter Oreos

  • Any round-packaged cookie will work for this recipe. Instead of using regular Oreos, you could use any variation of them.
  • If you want to take your bunny Oreos to the next level, attach them to lollipop sticks with a little icing for a fun Oreo pop!
  • Oreos with extra cream, such as the double stuffed, are the easiest Oreos to work with.
  • If you don’t want to use candy melts, you can also use white chocolate chips or melted white chocolate made for making treats like this.

Equipment

  • 1 Silcone mold

Ingredients

  • 12 oz Candy melts white
  • 6 Oreos
  • 6 Marshmallows large ones
  • 6 M&Ms pink
  • cup Sprinkles pink
  • 12 Candy eyes

Instructions

  • Add candy melts to microwave safe bowl. Follow the directions on your candy melts bag for melting until chocolate is smooth, thin, and glossy.
  • Place approximately 1 tablespoon of melted chocolate into each mold and use the back of a spoon to coat the sides.
  • After all sides are coated in each mold pocket, pick up mold and tap on the counter until chocolate runs down the sides and fully coats the bottom.
  • Place the mold in the refrigerator to harden for 5 minutes.
  • Remove mold and place one Oreo in the middle of each cup.
  • Pour remaining melted chocolate into each mold.
  • Pick up the mold and tap again until the chocolate appears to have coated the space between the cookie and the sides of the mold and evenly covered the top. Continue to tap on the counter until all air bubbles are gone.
  • Place back in the refrigerator for approximately 15 – 20 minutes or until the chocolate has fully hardened.
  • Remove cookies from each mold.
  • To make the ears, cut each marshmallow diagonally.  Dip the sticky side into the sprinkles.
  • Re-melt any chocolate left in the bowl and place a small amount on the bottom of the marshmallow ears, under the candy eyes and M&M nose to "glue" the parts to the Oreo to make the bunny face.

Notes

*When removing from the mold, if the outside of the cookie bottom isn’t completely even, brush the outside cookie edge along the palm of your hand to break off any excess chocolate.
