Spider Oreo Cookies Bring Creepy Halloween Fun

Halloween is the best excuse to play with our food—and these Spider Oreo Cookies are proof! We wanted something quick and easy to whip up after school that still looked spooky enough for October. With just Oreos, pretzels, candy eyeballs, and chocolate, we turned a plain cookie into a creepy-crawly treat. The best part? Kids can totally help with every step, from breaking the pretzels to pressing on the eyes.

When we set these little spiders out on a plate, it looked like they were about to crawl across the kitchen counter. (Don’t worry—these are the tastiest spiders you’ll ever meet!)

How to Assemble Spider Oreo Cookies

  1. Melt the Chocolate
Start by melting ½ cup of chocolate chips with 1 teaspoon of olive oil in the microwave. Heat in 20-second bursts, stirring each time, until smooth. This is your “glue” to hold the spider parts together.
  2. Prep the Spider Legs
Carefully break the 36 pretzel sticks in half so you’ll have eight shorter “legs” for each Oreo. Try to keep the pieces similar in size so your spider looks nice and balanced.
  3. Attach the Legs
Gently twist open each Oreo cookie. Dip the end of each pretzel piece into the melted chocolate and press four legs on each side of the cookie cream. Close the cookie back up to sandwich the legs in place.
  4. Make the Spider’s Back
Use the remaining 1 cup of chocolate chips, melted the same way as before, to spoon or spread a little chocolate on top of each Oreo. This gives your spider a smooth, shiny body.
  5. Add the Details
While the chocolate topping is still soft, press on two candy eyeballs and sprinkle a pinch of chocolate sprinkles across the top. The sprinkles add fun “furry” texture to your spider!
  6. Let Them Set
Place the spiders on a parchment-lined tray and let them sit until the chocolate hardens. If you’re in a hurry, pop the tray into the fridge for 10 minutes.

Tips & Tricks for Making Spider Oreo Cookies

  • Storage: Keep your spider cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. If your house is warm, pop them in the fridge so the chocolate stays firm.
  • Make-Ahead: These spiders can be made the day before a Halloween party. Just store them on a parchment-lined tray so they don’t stick together.
  • Kid Helpers: Younger kids can help twist open the Oreos and add the candy eyeballs. Older kids can dip pretzels in chocolate and assemble the legs.
  • Switch It Up: Want colorful spiders? Use orange or purple candy melts instead of plain chocolate. They’ll look extra festive on a Halloween dessert table!
