In this post, we’ll dive into the details of using a frosting board to create the Barbie dessert tray!
What is a Frosting Board?
A frosting board is a spin off of the now well-known charcuterie board and then the other spin off, the butter board. Whereas a traditional charcuterie board might be filled with cheese, fruits, meats, and crackers, a frosting board is full of sugar!
What Types of Treats to Add to a Dessert Board for Barbie Party Food?
Remember, we are thinking of the frosting board as a dessert board. The frosting is for people to dip their sweet treats in. Or not. It’s totally up to the snacker as to what goes into the frosting and what doesn’t. As you can see from our idea list, a variety of cookies, small snack cakes, mini cupcakes, donuts – the more pink and blue toned, the better!
You can find most of the ingredients at your local grocery store or on Amazon.

Harper Says
I like all the bright colors of this dessert board for kids. I think adult women would like this dessert board too – maybe they wouldn’t eat as much of it as kids would. But for looking at it and taking pictures, I really think they would like it. Our mom didn’t let us go see the latest Barbie movie because she said it seemed more like for older teens or grown ladies. So a lot of grown women would probably like our Barbie party food ideas as much as the kids.

Super cute! It has a bunch of sweets, and the pool is made of icing. There’s a lot of pink! And kind of a lot of blue since there is the pool. If you are a girl mom, you probably already have a Barbie swimming pool at your house!
Steps for Setting up this Barbie Party Food
Step 1: Prepare the swimming pool.
Clean, dry and assemble Barbie Toy. Cover the inside completely with Glad Press’n Seal wrap.
Place the toy into the center of your serving tray.
Step 2: Fill the pool with blue frosting.
Fill covered pool with all of the frosting. Save the sprinkles that come with the frosting for
another use as the sprinkles don’t make sense at your Barbie pool party! Use a spoon to add texture to the top to look like pool waves.
Step 3: Begin placing food.
Add Unicorn cakes to the top left and bottom right corners. Add mini cupcakes to top right and bottom left corners.
Start filling in space with larger pink frosted cookies, Golden Oreos and strawberry wafers.
Step 4: Fill in the remainder of the serving platter with sweet treats befitting of a Barbie gala!
We like to work corner to opposite corner when filling in charcuterie boards or dessert boards. We might start with the lower left corner and fill in the upper right corner with an assortment of treats.
Do not place too many of the same treats in one area. Spread the sugary love all around the board! And whatever you do, do not leave any dead space on the board. Every space should be full.
Tips for Making a Barbie Frosting Board for a Barbie Themed Party
- Put thought into the color scheme in advance – before shopping for treats. You want the whole board to look somewhat cohesive color wise. Picture the swimming pool kind of like a comforter in a bedroom. You want the other items around the bedroom to complement or coordinate with the comforter. The colors of blue not only complement each other, but they are typical Barbie colors.
- Another thing to consider when shopping for treats is the use of big and small items. You don’t want all the treats to be the same size. Some cookies and candies should be small. Others should be larger.
- Place larger items on the board first, and let everything else tumble in around and on top. This is not the time for nice neat stacks of cookies. This type of dessert board is much more attractive with a “thrown together” look.
- Include a little Barbie accessories scattered around – Barbie sunglasses, a Barbie lounge chair, etc.
- Dessert boards can get expensive because you have to have a lot of filler items for the board. The board featured here features many different products. If necessary, you could provide fewer types of items (meaning you purchase fewer products and use more of each of those products on the board). Just remember to keep to large and small items and a variety.
- Encourage guests to dip the cookies into the frosting as some may be hesitant to disturb the vivid swimming pool. Also encourage them to eat the marshmallows before they dry out and get hard.
