Why You Will Love Watermelon Fries
- Kids love these watermelon sticks
- Not as messy as the traditional chunks or slices of watermelon
- Party-friendly for easy grabbing and wandering
- Vegan
- Gluten-free
Ingredients
- 1/4 of a watermelon
- 1/2 orange
- 1/2 lemon
- 3/4 cup of Greek yogurt
- 2 tbsp. condensed milk
- mint to serve
Supplies Needed
You don’t need much kitchen equipment at all for basic straight-cut watermelon fries. You’ll need a cutting board and a sharp knife – serrated works best.
If you have a crinkle cut knife, you can add the “crinkled” look, this is a perfect time to put that tool to use. But if not, just leave your watermelon fries in stick shapes – like straight fries or home fries. Sometimes, we make our fries crinkly. We have a special kid crinkle cut knife set that we love!
Other times, we leave ours straight – especially if we are rushed for time or just want a quick snack.
How to Choose a Perfectly Good Watermelon
There are some tricks of finding the perfect watermelon! One of our local peeps at the farmer’s market showed us what to look for when choosing a watermelon.
- Choose a heavy watermelon. A heavy watermelon will indicate a juicy watermelon.
- Look for watermelons that have a bit of yellow or gold coloring on the outside
- Opt for seedless
- Tap and listed for a hollow sound.

Make Orange or Lime Yogurt Dip for Watermelon Fries
Our Greek yogurt dip is versatile. We make ours with the zest and juice of a lemon and orange. You can change the lemon and orange out for lime and a bit of coconut if you prefer to have a lime coconut dip for watermelon fries instead.
- Instead of adding the juice of an orange, as we do, substitute the zest and juice of a lime instead of the orange and lemon. Then, add a sprinkle of coconut on top for a coconut lime dip for watermelon fries.
How to Season Watermelon Fries
The sky is the limit when it comes to what types of seasonings for watermelon. Much like adding seasonings to French fries, we like to add some seasonings to our watermelon fries. Here are some of our favorite seasonings for our crinkled watermelon fries:
- Tajin – a Mexican spice blend of salt, chili peppers, and lime
- Sea salt – fine or medium grain
- Chili powder – seasoned to taste
