What is STEM?
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Gaining in popularity over the last 10-15 years or so, STEM is a curriculum that focuses on teaching these four subjects in an integrated and hands-on way.
STEM education is becoming increasingly important as we move towards a more technology-driven society. We have STEM class at school, and we love it! By participating in STEM activities, we develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills that will help us well in the future. Not only that, but STEM education is also a lot of fun!

Non-Candy Halloween Treats from Teachers to Students
Teachers might wish to make one STEM kit for each student for Halloween as opposed to giving more candy. Our mom is a teacher, and she tells us that teachers dread the day after Halloween with students because they eat too much candy and act wild!

We offer a variety of 12 Halloween STEM kits that are all designed to be fun and engaging for children. One of our most popular kits is the marshmallow and candy corn tower challenge, which challenges kids to build the tallest tower they can using only these two types of candy. And…okay…maybe some of the kits do have a little candy!
Another popular kit is the slime kit challenge, which includes all the ingredients kids need to make their own spooky slime.
For those who love a good engineering challenge, we also offer a candy corn catapult challenge with rubber bands, where kids can design and build their own catapults to launch candy corns.
And for those who love biology, we have a build your own skeleton challenge, where kids can learn about the human body while assembling their own skeleton. No matter what your child’s interests are, we have a Halloween STEM kit for you that can serve as a non-candy Halloween alternative.
Even Dad has fun getting in on the action!
Harper Says…
I like that the Candy Corn tower challenge is edible. If you make it look right and stand up right, it looks cute! It can be challenging to get the tower to stay up!
Norah Says…
My favorite Halloween STEM challenge is the skeleton challenge. It’s made with a bunch of Q-tips. We have to use black paper to put the Q-tips on. The skeleton turns out mostly white just like a real skeleton. I like to take the top of the Q-tips – the fluffy part – and cut it and make it hair for the skeleton!

Look through the list and find the DIY Halloween STEM challenge that is right for you! Then, print the labels and gather the supplies! You will need small plastic bags and a stapler to attach the bag toppers. These are mini-toppers so the smaller bags work well. We used sandwich bags in our pictures, but the Ziplock snack bags would work well as would typical small treat bags from the party supply section.
The number of items you place in each bag is up to you. It will depend on how long you want the challenge to last. For example, with the candy corn tower, the more marshmallows, candy corn, and toothpicks you provide, the larger the potential for the tower.
