Supplies Needed for Pipe Cleaner Spider Lollipops
You don’t need much! That is why this is such a great Halloween craft for kids to help with! If they can twist some pipe cleaner onto a stick, they can help!
- Lollipops like Tootsie Pops or Blow Pops
- Black pipe cleaner
- Googley eyes
- Strong glue
Pipe cleaner can be purchased for these spider lollipops crafts at any craft store like Hobby Lobby or at any department store with a large enough section of crafts supplies.
There are tons of different styles of googley eyes out there these days. We prefer to use the plain smaller-sized googley eyes.
Large Tootsie Pops or Blow Pops work well for this Halloween spider lollipops craft. The round lollipop works well as the bulbous body of a spider.
How to Make Halloween Spider Lollipops
Cut two black pipe cleaners in half.
Lay a full-sized pipe cleaner down. Place the four halves across the
middle. Using both ends, wrap the full-sized pipe cleaner around them.
Keep wrapping until about 1/2 inch is sticking out on both ends.
Place the spider on the lollipop stick right where it meets the lollipop wrapper.
To secure it, twist the two ends you left from earlier around the stick.
Spread the rest of the pipe cleaner pieces out like spider legs. Make a small L-bend about an
inch from the end of each leg so the spider can stand. We have learned you have to make sure to bend all the legs just the same or the spider will not stand properly!
Glue the eyes on the body of the spider using a hot glue gun. Of course, we recommend an adult or a responsible child of older ages use the hot glue gun. Those things can really hurt a person! Ask us how we know about that!
Let the glue set before handling your Halloween spider lollipops!
Tips
- Use a second black pipe cleaner around the body if it needs to be thickened
up. - Do not glue the spider directly to the lollipop. By leaving it unattached, kids can easily
remove it and have the pipe cleaner spider to play with afterward.
That’s it! Look at those cute creepy crawlers!
These Halloween spider lollipops don’t have to be enjoyed only at Halloween. Any teacher or childcare giver can incorporate these cute pipe cleaner spider lollipops into a spider curriculum or a nature unit. Kids will love these treats any time of year!
