We love making mummy truffles because they are a fun and creative way to celebrate Halloween. These spooky treats are perfect for parties, trick-or-treaters, or just a fun activity to do with friends and family.
Here are a few reasons why we think you should try making mummy truffles:
- You don’t need any special equipment or ingredients to make these truffles. All you need is some chocolate, cream, and a few other simple ingredients.
- The best part of making mummy truffles is decorating them! You can use white chocolate, frosting, or even royal icing to create the mummy bandages. You can also use candy eyes or other decorations to give your mummies some personality.
- Of course, the most important reason to make mummy truffles is because they are delicious! The rich chocolate and cream filling make for a decadent treat that everyone will love.
Why Our Oreo Balls Recipe is Great for Kids to Help in the Kitchen
Making Oreo balls is a great kitchen activity for kids because it is fun, easy, and there is a delicious reward at the end for the labor involved! Kids can learn how to crush Oreos, mix them with cream cheese, and shape them into balls. This activity can help improve their motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and creativity.
Additionally, it is a great opportunity to teach kids about kitchen safety and cleanliness. The idea of washing hands multiple times while following the steps is one such teaching point. Once the Oreo balls are ready, kids feel proud to share them with family or friends.

Ingredients Needed for Mummy Truffles with Oreos
To make our delicious mummy truffles, we will need a few key ingredients. Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 package of Oreo cookies
- Cream cheese
- White chocolate chips or candy coating
- Candy eyes
Substitutions for Ingredients in Mummy Oreo Balls
- For the Oreo cookies, you can use any flavor you like. We like to use the classic chocolate flavor, but you could also use the golden ones for a fun twist. Also, we prefer to use the Double Stuf Oreos as they provide a bit more flavor. But we have used the regular ones many times in Oreo balls with no troubles at all. If you are wondering how many Double Stuf Oreos are in a package, rest assured a 15.35 ounce package of Double Stuf Oreos yields enough cookies for this recipe. You might even have a few leftover to snack on!
- When it comes to the white chocolate chips or candy coating, we recommend using a high-quality product that will melt smoothly and have a good flavor. Our favorite to use on Oreo balls or other non-bake candies is almond bark which is easily found at grocery stores.
- If you would rather not use cream cheese, you do have the option to use a tub of pre-made vanilla frosting instead. This ingredient is simply to help bind the chocolate together inside the Oreo ball. Either one will work fine.
- Finally, for the candy eyes, you can purchase pre-made candy eyes at a baking supply store. But if you have trouble finding these, you could use mini chocolate chips for the eyes. You can even check out this googley eyes recipe if you feel up to making your own!
With these ingredients in hand, we’re ready to start making our mummy Oreo truffles!
Mummy Oreo Balls for Halloween (Mummy Truffles)
Equipment
- 1 Food processor
Ingredients
- 15.35 oz Double Stuf Oreos You need about 25 from the package.
- 4 oz Cream cheese softened
- 16 oz Almond bark or other melting white chocolate
- 50 Candy googley eyes
Instructions
- Using a food processor, crush the Oreos until finely ground. Transfer to a large mixing bowl.
- Combine the softened cream cheese with the Oreo crumbs. Stir well until all the crumbs are coated and the dough balls up and becomes less crumbly.
- Using a small ice cream scoop or a heaping teaspoon – divide the dough equally to create about 1-inch size balls and roll between the palms of your hands to round out the edges as best as possible. Set on a piece of parchment. Continue until all the dough is shaped.
- Place the sheet of parchment on a cutting board or sheet pan that will fit in the fridge or freezer. Chill for at least 30 minutes to solidify the dough balls.
- Once chilled, begin melting the white chocolate. Transfer the white chocolate (or white candy coating) to a microwavable bowl. Heat in 30 second increments and stir well between each heat interval. Only heat until the mixture is smooth – do not overheat as it will scorch the chocolate.
- Once the white chocolate is smooth, place one ball of dough in the bowl and use a spoon to roll and cover in the melted chocolate. Gently scoop it out of the melted mixture and tap on the side of the bowl to release any excess and allow it to drip back into the bowl for about 10 seconds. Carefully place on the parchment and use the very tip of the spoon to smooth and cover the white chocolate where the spoon may have left an indent. Continue until all the balls are coated in white chocolate.
- Transfer the remaining melted white chocolate to a piping bag or Ziploc bag. Cut a small hole in the tip of the bag.
- Working quickly, drizzle the white chocolate over the dipped balls – only to 2-3 at a time. Immediately follow up by pressing two eye balls into place on each mummy truffle.
- Allow about 10-15 minutes for the white chocolate to set before moving to a serving platter.
