What are Halloween Peanut Butter Eyeballs?
Made of a solid peanut butter and powdered sugar base, these tasty peanut butter Halloween balls are easy to make and are sure to impress your guests.
These creepy peanut butter eyeballs are a fun and delicious addition to any Halloween party. Plus, they’re easy to customize – you can use different colors of food coloring to create different eye colors, or add sprinkles or other decorations to make them even more festive. Give them a try and see how your guests react – we’re sure they’ll be a hit!
Make Sure Kids at the Halloween Party Do Not Have Peanut Allergies
And for those who want to get a little bit creepy, there are even treats like peanut butter eyeballs that are sure to give you a fright! While you probably don’t want to hand these out for trick-or-treating (because of food allergies), you could gift these to neighbors whom you know or take as a fun treat for small Halloween parties.
Again, you should be careful taking anything peanut butter based to school parties or day care parties because you may not know all the children and may not know if someone has a peanut allergy. Usually, the school sends home a notice advising against foods with peanuts if any child in the classroom has a peanut allergy.

How to Make Halloween Peanut Butter Eyeballs
Ahead of making the recipe, we set out butter to soften. This helps with the mixing process.
In a large mixing bowl, we combine all the peanut butter ball ingredients in order as listed and mix until it is well combined. The powdered sugar needs to be added and mixed in one cup at a time. The mixture should be thick and smooth. You should be able to mix and mold the mixture into ping pong size balls.
We roll the mixture into balls and place on baking sheet. We like to chill the balls for a bit while we prepare the ingredients for the decorations.
Then, we melt almond bark in the microwave in increments so it doesn’t burn.
Using a toothpick, we dip the balls into the melted almond bark and immediately place them back on a plate or baking sheet. We have to work fast so the melted almond bark doesn’t firm up before we are finished. (If the bark does start to harden up in the bowl, you can heat for 15 seconds or so again.)
We use the red gel icing to create the veins and iris of the eyeballs. First, we place a small drop of red glaze on the very tops of the peanut butter balls. Then, we use a toothpick to draw out the glaze – down along the sides of the eyes. Then, we top the red glaze with one candy eye.
Chill the peanut butter balls for another 30 minutes to an hour.
The end result should be creepy blood-shot peanut butter eyeballs!
Safety Precautions for Halloween Peanut Butter Eyeballs
When it comes to making Halloween peanut butter eyeballs – especially for parties where other kids and parents will eat – safety should always be our top priority. Here are a few tips to keep in mind to ensure that the Halloween peanut butter balls are both delicious and safe for everyone to enjoy.
- We wash our hands thoroughly before and after handling food. This helps to prevent the spread of germs and bacteria.
- We use clean utensils and equipment when making our peanut butter eyeballs. This includes bowls, spoons, measuring cups, and any other tools we may need. Mom says it is best to clean as we go so there is not a huge build up of dirty things laying around. This also helps make things easier at the end.
- It’s important that we check the expiration dates on all of our ingredients before using them. Using expired ingredients can lead to health issues.
- Again, as we said at the beginning of the post, Halloween peanut butter balls should only be brought to kid-attended events in which you know there will be no peanut allergies!
- Finally, we keep our work area clean and free of clutter. This helps to prevent accidents and spills.
How to Store and Serve
It is important to keep them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. This will help keep them fresh and prevent them from drying out. Peanut butter balls can dry out if left out. We recommend storing them for up to 3-4 days.
When it’s time to serve the peanut butter eyeballs, we suggest taking them out of the refrigerator at least 30 minutes before serving. This will allow them to come to room temperature and make them softer and easier to bite into.
To make them even more spooky, you can serve them on a platter with some fake spiderwebs or other Halloween-themed decorations.
Allow Kids to Decorate Their Own Halloween Peanut Butter Balls
Another idea for serving creepy peanut butter eyeballs is to set up a DIY station at a party where guests can make their own. Simply provide the ingredients (peanut butter, powdered sugar, chocolate chips, etc.) and let your guests get creative. This is a fun and interactive way to get everyone in the Halloween spirit. We have done this before with DIY monster cupcakes at one of our birthday parties when we were little. The kids have fun!
Creepy Peanut Butter Halloween Eyeballs
Ingredients
For Halloween Peanut Butter Eyeballs
- 12 tbsp Unsalted butter softened
- 1 cup Peanut butter
- ½ cup Marshmallow cream
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Vanilla
- 4 cups Powdered sugar
For Decoration
- 1 cup Almond bark 4 squares from the almond bark brick
- 20 Candy eyeballs
- ½ cup Red glaze bought at store in tube in baking section
Instructions
To Make Peanut Butter Balls
- Mix softened butter, peanut butter, marshmallow cream, salt, and vanilla in medium mixing bowl.
- Mix in powdered sugar, one cup at a time.
- Roll into 20 small balls and place on baking sheet lined with foil or parchment paper. Place in fridge to chill for about 30 minutes.
Prepare the Decoration
- In a microwave safe bowl, melt the almond bark by heating in increments. Heat for 30 seconds and stir. Heat for 30 more seconds and stir. Continue with 15 second increments until the bark is melted and drippy but not overly runny.
- Dip each peanut butter ball into the almond bark using a toothpick or fork. Place the ball back on the baking tray to set. Move quickly dipping all the balls because the melted almond bark will firm up quickly.
- Drop or squeeze a small bit of red glaze on top of each ball, and "draw" red veins coming out from the top with a second toothpick or small flat knife.
- Set a candy eye in the red glaze for each ball.
- Chill peanut butter balls again until ready to serve.
