Why We Love Reindeer Pretzel Sticks

We love reindeer pretzel sticks for their irresistible combination of sweet and salty, as the crunchy pretzel sticks are transformed into charming reindeer faces with melted chocolate, candy eyes, and a red M&M nose, making them an adorably festive and delicious holiday goodie.

Have you met many kids who don’t like chocolate or pretzels? We haven’t!

Ingredients

  • 40 pretzel sticks
  • ½ cup chocolate chips
  • ½ teaspoon coconut oil
  • 20 mini red M&M’s
  • 40 edible googly eyes
ingredients in clear bowls

Storage, Advance Prep, and Firming Tips

  • Store pretzel reindeer in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. Ensure they are kept in a cool, dry place to maintain their freshness.
  • Prepare the melted chocolate and assemble the pretzels with eyes and noses in advance. Refrigerate the assembled treats until the chocolate hardens, then store them in a single layer to prevent sticking.
  • If the chocolate has softened, you can briefly place the reindeer in the refrigerator to firm up.

Recipe Tips for Pretzel Stick Reindeer

Use high-quality chocolate for a smooth and glossy finish. Dark, milk, or white chocolate can be chosen based on personal preference.

Melt the chocolate slowly and avoid overheating to prevent it from seizing or becoming grainy. As we have learned the hard way a time (or five), chocolate can burn easily!

Ensure the eyes and noses are securely attached to the melted chocolate to prevent them from falling off once the treats have hardened.

Consider double-dipping the pretzels for a thicker chocolate coating after setting the initial coat.

Substitutions and Variations for Reindeer Pretzel Sticks

  • Experiment with different pretzel shapes, such as twists or square grids, to add variety to your reindeer designs. We love getting crafty, and trying out different versions of the same treat!
  • Substitute candy eyes and noses with other small candies, chocolate chips, or fresh cranberries.
  • Roll the chocolate-coated part of the pretzel in festive sprinkles or crushed candy canes for a colorful and textured appearance.
  • Infuse the melted chocolate with a hint of peppermint or orange extract for a flavored twist to the reindeer pretzel treats.
  • Opt for gluten-free pretzels to make the treats suitable for individuals with gluten sensitivities.
